dragontrap: (BLAH!)
[personal profile] dragontrap
I have decided to try and improve my health by cutting OUT things that either do make me sick, or trying to cut out things that are known to possibly cause issues; I've decided to try the Paleo Diet (do not confuse this with a weight loss diet, I am not after weight-loss, I am after a better, overall health and well being). My mom is going to join me in this little 31 day experiment since she has issues with dairy (lactose intolerant), and I'm hoping that by doing this, I'll actually start to feel better and my general health will improve.

Now I know this won't heal my back, the damage has already been done there, but maybe it'll keep it from further problems because I am putting a much more healthier diet into my body, and cutting out problem foods in order to let my body heal itself from the damage over the years.

Pretty much I am giving it 31 days so that I can hopefully see some sort of helpful results from cutting out things I know are bad for me (gluten is a huge one, I have lots of tummy problems with it). This ALSO ties in with Samhain, which falls on the very last day of the 31 day plan, which means I'll be starting the new year with a more healthy outlook on things :3.

If you know nothing about the Paleo Diet, here's a basic rundown:

- Eat real food – grass-fed, pasture raised meat, eggs, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit, oils (like EVOO or coconut). Eat foods with very few ingredients, all pronounceable ingredients, or better yet, no ingredients listed at all because they’re fresh and natural.
- Do not consume pasteurized dairy products (you lose all of the good enzymes apparently when goes through pasteurization). I had read that you were not supposed to consume any dairy at all, but it seems that you lack the vitamin K2 when you do that, so I'll try my hand at some *Real Milk products in an attempt to eat a healthier form of dairy since I don't have lactose issues. Thankfully it is legal in SC to sell Raw Milk, so I can get it locally from local farmers
- Do not eat grains. This includes bread, rice, pasta, corn (I count corn as a grain), oatmeal, and all of those gluten-free pseudo-grains.
- Do not eat legumes. This includes beans of all kinds, lentils, soy, and peanuts. (Soybeans will be coming back in 30 days, which sucks, but I'll stick it out)
- Do not eat sugars of any kind, real or artificial. No maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, Splenda, Truvia, Stevia, etc. (after the 30 days, I can have small amounts of real, unprocessed sugar)
- Do not eat processed foods. This includes protein shakes, processed bars (like Zone bars), dairy-free creamers, etc.
- Do not drink alcohol, in any form. (luls, not a problem on my end)

Once the 30 days is up, I'll be slowly introducing some of the foods I have to take out (like my soybeans. Those I'm going to miss). Gluten-based products will be out, my body already doesn't tolerate them very well, and I've been weaning myself off gluten for months now.

So, wish me luck! I'm going to make a public blog to track my everyday progress as I work through the 31 days, and hopefully I come out on top :3.

So yeah,
